Simple Care Instructions For Your Handmade Quilts
Being 100% cotton fabrics and batting, our quilts are easy to care for and maintain. Your custom handmade quilt can be either machine washed or handwashed with an everyday laundry powder.
All our quilts can either be line dried, preferably in the shade or tumble dried on a low setting, or a combination of both. Tumble drying your quilt at a low temperature for 10 minutes can reduce the drying time on the line and helps to soften the fibers.
As your quilt is washed, over time the fabrics will soften making your quite more and more cosy. Ironing is not recommended as it can flatten the backing changing the appearance of your quilt. Following these instructions will allow you to enjoy your custom handmade quilt for many years to come.

Handmade Quilts For Your Home
I love the process of choosing a colour palette for each quilt that is unique and diverse and highlights the unique design of the quilt. I have a wide range of styles to choose from with everything from simple squares to bargello, traditional patterns, modern designs, and custom designs. Each quilt I make is a one-of-a-kind, with it’s own variations in fabric, colour and design.
Available products include:
- Baby quilts – Ideal as a gift for a new baby and perfect for the cot or a play mat. Pram size patchwork quilts are also available.
- Bed quilts – a lovely year-round addition to any room. Perfect for adding colour and can be ‘themed’ for a child’s bedroom. The cotton fabrics and batting are an ideal weight for Australian winters. Bed quilts can be made in a variety of sizes to fit single, king single, double, queen or king size beds.
- Christmas patchwork – Why not add some Christmas patchwork to your home? I have a range of Christmas patchwork including quilts, table runners and placemats in a variety of traditional and modern designs and colours.
- Patchwork throws – These quilts are smaller than a bed quilt and ideal as a lap quilt to snuggle under while watching your favourite show. They’re also great to keep in the car for a travel quilt or picnic blanket. A perfect engagement or wedding present to treasure.
- Patchwork napery – I have an extensive collection of table runners and placemats, to protect your table tops and add colour and style to your dining table. Being made with 100% cotton fabrics they are easy to wash and dry and will last through many years of family dinners.
The Design Process For Custom Handmade Quilts
The first question is “Who is the quilt for”? And secondly, “How will it be used”?
Quilts make ideal gifts for new babies, children moving into a ‘big bed’ from their cot, grandparents or even newly married couples. They can be used for cot blankets, are ideal play mats for ‘tummy time’, are handy to keep in the car for a picnic and make great throws for those colder evenings.
Who the quilt is for will guide the choice of fabric in terms of the colour and design. The range of fabrics available is extensive and coordinating fabrics can create bright, colourful quilts or more subdued tones can be used for something more subtle.
How the quilt will be used will affect the size of the finished quilt. From an everday placemat size to large custom handmade quilts for beds and everything in between.

Choosing The Right Patchwork Quilt For Your Decor
Adding a handmade patchwork quilt to your lounge room or bedroom is a great way to add a statement piece with elegance and style. Patchwork quilts are like a timeless artwork, and when decorating with quilts, the most important thing is to find one that you love. Then it will never go out of style. Because I use cotton fabrics in all my quilts, they are colourfast and durable and will be around for many years to come.
There are so many styles and design options for homemade patchwork quilts and choosing the right quilt can be a bit difficult, especially if there are a few you love! Here’s a few tips to help you out:
1. Colour – Think about the colour of the quilt and how it will enhance your room’s decor. The quilt can be bright and bold and make a statement, or be more subtle and nestle into the corner of a room.
2. Style – Handmade quilts come in a variety of styles, some which are more traditional and some more modern. The style is really up to you and the feel that you want a room to have. You can purchase a quilt to fit with a room or buy a quilt you love and design the room around it. Homemade quilts can be a great way of softening a formal space and adding a layer of comfort.
3. Size – Will the quilt be used on a bed, as a throw on a lounge, as a playmat or hung as a wall-hanging? Considering where the quilt will go in the room will help you to choose a quilt that will be fit for purpose. If you are purchasing a bed quilt, it’s always good to consider the depth of the mattress to make sure the quilt will have enough overhang.
Of course, you don’t have to be limited to one quilt. They are easy to fold and store and can be coordinated with the changing seasons or special events throughout the year to celebrate the people and times in your family.
When purchasing a quilt for a gift, there really is no right or wrong quilt to buy. If you consider the recipient of the gift, and their personal style, it will be likely to become a treasured possession for many years. If you can’t find anything that is just what you are looking for on my website, please contact me to discuss a personalised, custom-made quilt.
